Simpllery, the simple image index gallery, is finally being re-released after a complete overhaul!
What is it?
Simpllery is a free single php index file which can be placed in a folder of images. When the folder is accessed, Simpllery will generate a grid of thumbnails showing all the images therein (no extra files are created as the original images are used). Thus a very simple gallery structure is created, where clicking on a certain image enlarges it. No GD image library use, no Flash, nothing but simple php, xhtml and CSS. You can customise the size of the thumbnails and add a title to your gallery. More advanced users can tweak the CSS to create a custom layout.
Can I see it in action?
Yes, please do. Also, note how the layout reforms fluidly as you resize your browser window :]
It’s free?
Free and free: Simpllery (Simple Image Index Gallery) by John Kingsnorth is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 UK: England & Wales License.
How do I use it?
- Upload your images to a new folder on your php-enabled server. Or choose an existing folder of images without an index file.
- Download Simpllery.
- Extract index.php and edit the variables in the file’s header.
- Upload index.php directly into your images directory.
- Visit the directory in your web-browser.
- Make a cup of tea.
I has a problems!
If the script doesn’t work at all then ensure you’re server can run PHP scripts. If you can not enlarge the images (by clicking on their thumbnails) then you may need to copy your php.ini file into the directory you are using. Feel free to contact me if you experience any problems.
What’s coming in future version?
Custom layouts, better error handling, reading EXIF information from digital cameras…
