Parade Shoe Polishing Guide
Friday, March 21st, 2008, 1:03 pmYou will need:
- Pot o’ shoe polish (Kiwi Black Shoe Polish)
- Yellow duster
- Bit o’ water
- Parade shoes
Right, there are many different ways that different people polish their shoes. There is no definite ‘right’ way, but this was the method once taught to serving RAF.
Step 1: Take the lid off the polish, and pour a little water into the lid. Not the polish itself. Grab the yellow duster and fold it in half. Then wrap it around your finger to form a pad. Then, apply a small amount of polish to the tip of your finger (on the pad).

Step 2: Smear the polish over your toe cap using a large circular motion, until all the polish is evenly applied.
Step 3: Apply a little more polish to your finger tip but this time also use a tiny amount of water as well. This time apply to the shoes using smaller circles.
Step 4: Repeat these procedures using a little less polish, a little more water, and smaller circles each time. Until you are doing tiny tiny circles with just water.
Step 5: Use a damp piece of cotton wool on the toe cap to smooth out any smears and bring out the shine.
Then beam in happiness at your glowing shoes. Not glowing? Go back to Step 1!
